FAQs

Q1. I didn’t use any water for X number of months why do I still need to pay my water bill?

A1. We are a community owned water system of which you are a member and our membership policies include “that year-round payment is due regardless of water use.” This is done to ensure that we can maintain the system year round.

Q2. Why is my water off?

A2. It is encouraged for members to turn their water off when leaving town for an extended period of time to avoid avoid costly water bills in the event of an undiscovered leak, and if our System Operator does discover a leak he will turn the meter off. If you are current with your water bill and we have no record of our System Operator turning it off because of a leak, then it could be that a neighbor may have accidentally shut yours off by mistake.

Q3. And can I just turn my water back on?

A3. If your water is off due to nonpayment then no, this is considered theft, please don’t. Otherwise you may turn it it back on.

Q4. Why is there a lock on my meter?

A4. There is a lock because you have not paid your bill in the last 60 days, if you would like it removed please come in and pay your bill. DO NOT CUT THE LOCK, this is theft and we will have to notify the sheriff as well as charge a $500 fee and pull the meter.

Q5. Why can’t I shut-off the town water to fix my leak?

A5. Accessing any valve that is connected to our main water system is a serious federal offense under the Homeland Security Act. There is a specific way our system needs to be turned off and back on in order to prevent leaks and blow-outs from occurring. In addition, any time our system is shut down the state requires extra testing to be done of our water, which can be costly.
